About Tunisia
Tunisia crowns the northern tip of Africa, wedged between Algeria and Libya on the Mediterranean coast. Its capital, Tunis, sits beside the ruins of ancient Carthage, once Rome's great maritime rival. Whitewashed hillside villages, grand Roman amphitheatres, date-palm oases and the dunes of the Sahara pack remarkable variety into one of North Africa's smaller countries.
- Cape Angela in northern Tunisia is the northernmost point of the African mainland.
- The Star Wars planet Tatooine takes its name from Tataouine, a real Tunisian town whose surrounding fortified Berber granaries appeared as film sets.
- The amphitheatre of El Djem is among the largest Roman colosseums ever built, once seating some 35,000 spectators.
