About Namibia

Namibia lies along the Atlantic coast of southern Africa, a vast, sparsely settled land of towering red dunes, shipwreck-strewn shores, and wildlife-rich savanna. Its capital, Windhoek, sits on a highland plateau near the country's centre. Named for the Namib Desert, possibly the oldest on Earth, Namibia is famed for Etosha's salt pans, the eerie Skeleton Coast, and some of the darkest night skies anywhere.

• ·The Fish River Canyon in southern Namibia is widely regarded as the largest canyon in Africa.
